Themes help you give your document a polished look. MindNode includes a variety of built-in themes, lets you download themes from our website, and also enables you to create Personal Themes so your documents adopt your style.
Applying Themes
To apply a theme to your document, open the theme list and select the theme you like:
- Mac & iPad: Sidebar → Themes
- iPhone: Themes panel
- Apple Vision Pro: Themes sheet
If you want all your new documents use a specific theme, choose “Set as Default Theme” from the context menu of a theme in the theme list.
Dynamic and Static Themes
MindNode supports dynamic and static themes.
Dynamic Themes
Dynamic themes automatically switch between light and dark mode, following your system appearance. All built-in themes support this dynamic experience.
You can also select the light or dark appearance of a theme by choosing Light/Dark from the pop up bottom next to “Dynamic Themes”. In this case the theme will not adapt to the system appearance and behave like a static theme.
Static Themes
Static themes keep a fixed appearance, regardless of whether your device is in light or dark mode. MindNode doesn’t ship with static themes, but you can import them from our theme gallery or create one yourself.
Personal Themes
Personal Themes let you save your own styling choices—colors, fonts, shapes, branch styling, and more—so you can reuse them anytime with a single tap. This is essential when you want to keep your style in sync with all your other documents.
Create a Personal Theme
Personal Themes are created by extracting the style from the current document. Choose the “Create Theme” entry from the theme list and MindNode will generate a new theme. You can now choose if you want to create a static theme, or let MindNode automatically create a dynamic variant.
For optimal results, we recommend creating a document with a single main node, six attached child nodes, and a single connection. When extracting a theme from a document that has different styles for each level, MindNode will also use this information.
To help you get started, we created two sample documents. Import them into MindNode, style them to your liking and extract a new theme from them.
- Sample Document for Default Themes
- Sample Document for Hierarchical Themes (themes that have different style for each level)
All themes created in MindNode or imported (e.g. from the theme gallery) automatically sync to all your other devices using iCloud.
Style used by Personal Themes
MindNode tries to extract a personal theme as close as possible to your desired style. The following information can help you understand what styles are extracted so you optimize the creation of your own theme.
Canvas
- Background Color
Main node
- Node shape and fill color
- Border style
- Text style: font, font size, bold & italic (underline & strikethrough are not preserved), text color, background color
Child nodes
MindNode looks at the style of the first level-one node and extracts:
- Branch Style
- Node Style
- Border Style
- Text style: font, font size, bold & italic (underline & strikethrough are not preserved), text color, background color
Additionally, MindNode looks at all other nodes at the first level and extract the branch colors. If the first level-one node has child nodes with different styling, MindNode will also try to extract this styling information to create a hierarchical theme.
Connections
- Connection style
- Start- and endpoint style
- Text style: font, font size, bold & italic (underline & strikethrough are not preserved), text color, background color
If the Personal Theme is created without a connection, it defaults to a line as the start point and an arrow as the end point.
