MindNode Triad

Alias Files

A New Approach to Document Storage

Instead of managing documents as regular files in the file system, MindNode manages them directly within the app. Your documents are stored in Apple's CloudKit database rather than in iCloud Drive or a third-party storage provider. MindNode’s approach is similar to how other Apple apps, such as Notes, Photos, and Freeform, manage their content. CloudKit is Apple's underlying cloud technology for storing and syncing app data across devices. iCloud Drive is also built on top of it.

One of the key benefits of this approach is that your documents remain available on your devices, even when you're offline. This means you can continue working on your mind maps even when you're on a plane or don't have an internet connection.

Alias Files

While MindNode manages your documents within the app, you may sometimes prefer to access them directly from your Desktop, a Finder folder, or the Files app.

That's where Alias files come in.

An Alias file is an effortless shortcut that gives you quick access to a MindNode document outside the App interface. Drag any document from the MindNode document browser to your Desktop or a folder in Finder or the Files app. MindNode will automatically create an Alias that opens the original document directly in MindNode.

This way, you can keep your most important mind maps close at hand and access them just like regular files, while MindNode continues to manage the original documents for you.
