A New Era of Automation in MindNode

Shortcuts is a powerful app from Apple that allows you to create workflows, extend apps, and combine different apps to perform unique tasks. MindNode has had basic support for Shortcuts for a long time; however, those actions were limited to basic document management tasks, including importing and exporting. With the new architecture of MindNode Next, we can take it even further and provide direct actions to interact with your ideas.

Over the last several MindNode Next releases, we have been gradually extending this functionality in collaboration with Matthew Cassinelli, an expert in App Intents, Shortcuts, and the emerging world of Apple Intelligence. Matthew provided invaluable feedback on our new automation features and created a fantastic set of example workflows to showcase what’s possible.

Our sample Shortcuts are grouped into four different categories:

Starter Shortcuts

They are a great starting point for those new to Shortcuts. Use them to get a feeling for the app and adapt them to your own needs. There are shortcuts to use dictation to starte a new document or quickly create a new document.

Intermediate Shortcuts

In this category are Shortcuts that allow you to work with documents. Use shortcuts to quickly export the last opened document to Markdown or extract all text from an image to convert it to a mind map.

Advanced Shortcuts

Shortcuts in this section are a bit more complex and work with the contents of your documents. It contains shortcuts to update the style of your nodes, check the status of your tasks or add the current website to a website when doing research.

Friends of MindNode

Take MindNode even further and combine it with other apps like ChatGPT, Ulysses, Bear, Things, or OmniFocus.

You can find an overview of our shortcuts actions directly in the Shortcuts app and our updated user guide. They will work on Mac, iPhone, iPad and, Apple Vision Pro.

Our new Shortcuts integration makes it even easier to combine MindNode into your productivity workflow. We also laid the groundwork for the integration of MindNode with Apple Intelligence - we expect to hear more about it from Apple next week at its annual developer conference.

Give our sample Shortcuts a try, and let us know what workflows you created!
