MindNode 1.4 (Rerelease)

September 11, 2009 at 6:45 pm

I rereleased MindNode 1.4. The initial build (1185) didn’t support importing MindNode (touch) files. This is fixed in this new build (1186). I’m very sorry for this error on my part. You can update your installed version by selecting the MindNode > Check For Updates… menu item.

This issue only affects MindNode. I’m not rereleasing MindNode Pro 1.4.

MindNode (touch) released!

September 8, 2009 at 11:51 am

I released a new MindNode application today: MindNode (touch) is the iPhone/iPod touch companion of MindNode on the desktop. It has the look and feel of a MindNode desktop application, but features a well designed multitouch interaction. I spent a lot of time with my experience designer Wilfried Reinthaler designing the interaction and I think we were able to transfer the MindNode experience to this new platform.

Available On The AppStoreMindNode (touch) is exclusively available on the AppStore. You can find more information, including a Screencast on the MindNode (touch) page.

MindNode (touch) works great without MindNode Pro, but both are a perfect match. If you are interested in purchasing MindNode Pro, please have a look at the MindNode (touch) AppStore page. I’ll post a -20% coupon on there (it will be available as soon as Apple updates the page). This coupon will expire in two weeks.

Edit (09/23): I’m extending the promotion until 1.0.2 is released. This version will include a coupon that will allow people who purchase MindNode (touch) to get MindNode Pro cheaper.

MindNode (Pro) 1.4

September 8, 2009 at 11:26 am

I released new versions of MindNode and MindNode Pro today. Release 1.4 focuses on enabling sharing with MindNode (touch). MindNode and MindNode Pro are now able to import MindNode (touch) documents. MindNode Pro is also able to share (import and export) documents via Wifi and export documents via email.

Besides iPhone support, MindNode Pro also brings a new Smart-Layout functionality. This feature is similar to calling reorganize nodes after every change of the canvas. In the current implementation Smart Layout ignores main nodes, but retains the ability to rearrange the order of nodes using the mouse or the keyboard.

Pricing
I will raise the price of MindNode Pro to US$19.99 on October 1st and to US$24.99 shortly after the release of the next major version. This new version will enable image support and I expect it to be released in about three months. I’m raising the price to allow me to turn MindNode into a viable business. Thank you for your understanding!

Please also review the upcoming blog entry about MindNode (touch) for information about a special time-limited -20% promotion.

MindNode (touch) Release Date

September 5, 2009 at 6:59 pm

MindNode (touch) will be released next Tuesday (09/08/09) and will be exclusively available through the iTunes AppStore at a price of US$7.9 / 5,99 € / £4.99. MindNode (touch) is a standalone application and doesn’t require the Mac version of MindNode. However MindNode Pro 1.4 is required to transfer documents to the device. This version of MindNode Pro will also be released on Tuesday.

As a side note: The AppStore review team got some very bad press recently and thus I was very surprise how quick they handled the MindNode (touch) review process. The application got approved in under 8 days although I provided an incorrect MindNode Pro download link with my submission. Yesterday I heard back from them requesting a working link and only a few minutes after my reply I received a responds confirming that they were able to download the application. Only a few hours later my application was ready for sale.

MindNode (touch)

Just a short MindNode (touch) update. I submitted the application today and it’s currently in review. My guess is that it will be available in 2-3 weeks. If you want to receive an email when the application is available, you can sign up for an email notification on the updated MindNode (touch) page.

Snow Leopard

August 26, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Snow Leopard BoxApple Inc. will release the next version of Mac OS X – Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard – this Friday. All current versions of MindNode and MindNode Pro work perfectly on this new operating system.

To my knowledge there is only one minor issue when using automatic hyperlink detection in MindNode Pro. This issue prevents running the detection when a hyperlink is entered at the end of a node. A temporary workaround is to enter a space after a hyperlink. I’ll resolve this issue in the next release of MindNode Pro.

MindNode Pro 1.4 will be the next major release and will bring iPhone Sharing and Auto-Layout support. I’m planning to release it within the next three weeks.

Update 09/12:
The mentioned issue is fixed in MindNode Pro 1.4. I’m not aware of any other issue. If you find a bug or a crash please let me know!

When will you release MindNode (touch)?

July 15, 2009 at 3:17 pm

I just updated the MindNode (touch) page with more information about this new version of MindNode. I have the feeling that the text under the release headline will cause some confusing and I’d like to clarify it in this blog posting.

As you might have guessed I wasn’t able to make my original June 2009 headline. This has several reasons but basically comes down to one point: I want to release a great product and I think it’s currently not quite there yet. I want to release this application when I’m really satisfied with it and not earlier. I understand that this is not an answer to the above question, but setting an other deadline doesn’t seem to be the right way for me. Thank you for your understanding!

MindNode and MindNode Pro 1.3.5

June 29, 2009 at 10:51 am

Version 1.3.5 is a minor release that fixes one single issue: In previous versions connections to a node, which was created using duplicate, could load incorrectly from a file. If you experience this issue, select the entire content of the canvas and copy it into a new document.

I’m also releasing a new version of MindNode as this bug also effects documents created with MindNode and later edited with MindNode Pro.

MindNode Pro 1.3.3 and MindNode 1.3.3

May 31, 2009 at 12:05 pm

I released a minor update for MindNode Pro and MindNode today. This is only a minor maintenance release, which focuses on fixing a bug that prevented Spotlight from correctly indexing node titles in mindnode documents.

I also included a minor improvement related to link creation in MindNode Pro. The application will check if there is a link on the pasteboard and will “suggest” it as the new link. If there is no valid link on the pasteboard, the application no longer inserts mindnode.com as the default new link, and leaves the link text field empty.

Change Log:

  • When creating a link, MindNode Pro will try to extract an URL from the pasteboard.
  • Solves an issue that prevented the Spotlight importer from correctly indexing mindnode documents.
  • Fixes an issue that made it imposible to add nodes to an empty canvas.
  • Fixes an issue with folded nodes when rewiring nodes.
  • Fixes an issue related to undoing a waypoint location change after undoing a branch reorganization.
