Shortcuts

I got several requests regarding my use of shortcuts in MindNode 1.0. A lot of people don’t like my keyboard mapping and I understand that it’s a very bad idea to change it shortly after a 1.0 release. But after spending a lot of time talking with users and thinking about this topic, I decided to update my shortcuts in 1.0.1.

So what will change:

  • Node Creation
Enter will no longer enter the title edit mode. It will create a new sibling node. Cmd+Enter will be the new mapping for edit mode and Option+Enter will create a new child node.
  • Arrow Keys
The arrow keys are currently used to change the location of a node. In the new mapping they allow to navigate the mind map logically. Option+arrow key will allow to relocate a node.

This new mapping is open for discussion and please let me know what you think of it. I attached the entire key mapping of my application as a pdf file to this posting.
For clarification:
Command Key = Apple Key
Option Key = Alt Key
Bold = change from 1.0 keyboard mapping

I was fine with the old commands, but like the new ones better. The most important commands are to create new sibling and child nodes, so assigng the enter key to them makes sense. I do like using arrow keys to navigate instead- I usually just drag and drop to move nodes around.

My biggest feature request is auto-wrap text!

    Thanks!

I’m glad you like the new mapping :)

I can’t promise, but auto-wrapping may be in 1.0.2 or 1.0.3. Depends how long it will take to completely rewrite my string handling code.

That new mapping sounds better Markus. I’m looking forward to trying it out :)
